{"id":3195,"date":"2023-02-14T22:20:45","date_gmt":"2023-02-14T22:20:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onsightapp.com\/user-guide\/?p=3195"},"modified":"2025-09-16T08:28:20","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T08:28:20","slug":"how-to-create-a-customer-and-give-them-a-login","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onsightapp.com\/user-guide\/how-to-create-a-customer-and-give-them-a-login\/","title":{"rendered":"How to create a customer and give them a login"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have your settings configured to NOT send emails to customers telling them about their logins then follow this process to create a customer and to give them a login:<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Log in to the Onsight web console at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sales.onsightapp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/sales.onsightapp.com\/<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>First we have to create the customer record.\n<li>Click on \u2018Customers\u2019 from the left-hand side menu.<\/li>\n<li>You will see a list of all of your existing customers. <\/li>\n<li>To add a new customer, click on &#8216;Add customer&#8217;.<\/li>\n<li>Fill in the customer&#8217;s information in the fields provided.\n<li>&#8216;Company Name&#8217; and &#8216;Allocated To&#8217; are required fields.\n<li>Choose &#8216;No&#8217; for &#8216;Allow Login&#8217;.\n<li>You can add a &#8216;Contact&#8217; person on the Contacts tab and it does not have to be the person who will be logging in. It can be someone else&#8217;s details.\n<li>Click on the \u2018Save\u2019 button.\n<li>You will be taken back to the screen that lists all the customers.\n<li>Next you have to create the login for the customer and create a password for them.\n<li>Click \u2018Settings\u2019 from the left-hand side menu.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the \u2018Users\u2019 menu item.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the &#8216;Add User&#8217; button in the top right-hand corner of the screen.<\/li>\n<li>Change &#8216;Is customer login&#8217; to &#8216;Yes&#8217;.<\/li>\n<li>In the &#8216;For Customer&#8217; field, type the first few letters of the customer that you just created. Choose the customer.\n<li>You need to fill in a name and email address for the new user. This is the email address that the customer will use to log in with.\n<li>Since you are not sending out automated emails to customers with their login details, you need to fill in a password for the user and contact the user yourself with the login details.\n<li>Click on the &#8216;Save&#8217; button.\n<li>You now have a customer record as well as a login for the customer.\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nFor security reasons, it is better to enable the automated emails that gives customers their login details. They can then choose their own password. To enable this option:<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Log in to the Onsight web console at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sales.onsightapp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/sales.onsightapp.com\/<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Click on \u2018Settings\u2019 from the left-hand side menu.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the \u2018Configuration&#8217; menu item.<\/li>\n<li>Click the \u2018Edit\u2019 button.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the &#8216;Customer Emails&#8217; tab.\n<li>Enable the &#8216;Send Customer Invite Emails?&#8217; option so that notification emails automatically go out to your customers.\n<li>Fill in a \u2018Sender Email Address\u2019 and &#8216;Reply-To Email Address&#8217; for the emails that your customers will receive.\n<li>Use the &#8216;Email Message&#8217; field to customise the message that they will receive.\n<li>Click the \u2018Save\u2019 button.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nIf you do activate that feature, then your process for creating a customer and a login becomes shorter.
